Mayor Todd Gloria of San Diego is taking action in response to the San Diego Humane Society's call for assistance. Starting today, Friday, January 13th, and throughout the weekend, adoption fees will be waived for the first 100 adult dogs (7 months and up) through a new promotion called "#Gloria100". Following this, all adult dog adoptions will cost just $25. This request for help came at a time when the shelter population hit an all-time high of 606 dogs on December 20th, 2022. The organization is currently at 118% capacity with more dogs than their capacity.
“Adopting my rescue pup, Diego, brought me so much joy, and I know adopting a new pet can do the same for other families too,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “I’m proud to host Gloria 100 because San Diegans are giving and loving people, so I’m confident we will be able to find forever homes for so many animals in our shelters.”
