Founded by veterans Shawn and Alisa Johnson in 2011, Dogs on Deployment was born out of their own experiences as a dual-military family. They recognized the need for a program like this and set out to make a difference.
Dogs on Deployment serves all branches of the military, including active duty, National Guard, and Reserve components. Their goal is to ensure that military members have the assurance that their pets are well cared for while they are deployed.

In addition to running an exceptional animal shelter, the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) also hosts a variety of programs and events throughout San Diego County.
